Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a naturally occuring dithiol compound and has long been known as an essential cofactor for mitochondrial bioenergetic enzymes.  In Vitro and In Vivo studies suggest that ALA also acts as a powerful antioxidant.  Aidditionally, ALA improves lipid by decreasing oxidation of LDL cholesterol and increases glucose uptake into muscle cells.
